RTE 2014 - 2015 Online Admission Details, Application Form

ADMISSIONS under 253 quota in all schools across Maharashtra for economically weaker sections prescribed under Right 10 Education (RTE) Act will be done on-line from academic year 2014-15. announced Minister of State for School Education Fauzia Khan. In the first phase on-line admission of RTE scats will be done in Mumbai-Pune belt. The move has been made due to bitter experience of last year when most of the prominent private unaided schools in Mumbai-Pune belt refused to admit poor students and tweaked the process to flout the mandate of RTE Act. Khan was replying to a call attention motion moved by Dr Deepak Sawant who alleged that large number of schools are not following admission procedures framed bv State Government.

Prof Khan made it clear that Education Department is considering a proposal to bring admission process across slate on-line to curb the malpractices and tor better monitoring of admission process. Lot of writ pctilioas were filed by aggrieved parents in Mumbai before Bombay High Court about unfair admission process and questionable practices adopted by most sopught after schools. Right now 9,505 schools across Maharashtra are under the ambit of RTE and 1.33,833 seats are kept aside for students from economically weaker sections and backward classes as per RTE rules. However, last vear. 67.000 seats or hardly 50% seats were filled up by the schools, barring some exceptions. The prime reason, was most schools completed their admission process in October-November and later pleaded inability to accommodate more students under RTE citing infrasiructural constraints.

Therefore, the admission process should be conducted in the month of March-April along with on-line admission of RTE seats so that admission lo poor and eligible students is not denied under flimsy pretext. Khan staled. About on-going admission process in many schools across slate. Education Minister made it clear that Director of Education would issue detailed guidelines very soon. According to Dr Sawant ICSE. CBSE, IB schools are conducting admission procedure in October-November itself and he demanded it to be declared illeaal. In view of long queues of parents in front of institutions, he also demanded centralised admission procedure to be introduced to prevent exploitation of parents by the institutions. Replying to a supplementary. Khan stated that the proposal will be applicable to 9505 schools, which however does not include schools under minorities category. Minorities institutions are not covered under RTE and hence are not required to reserve 25 % seats for students from economically weaker section of the society.
